Big out cry today because a beer called "Top Totty", which has been on sale in the Strangers' Bar in Westminster since 2007, suddenly began to offend people. Why? Because the picture on the tap shows a cartoon woman in a bra (and bunny ears and a bow tie but I assume they didn't cause the trouble).
Now, as a woman with boobs and bras I can tell you I feel completely un-offended by this beer and I find it odd that it has only suddenly become an issue almost five years after going on sale, complete with scantily clad woman back then too.
Perhaps it's the wording "Top Totty". Well, back in the day me and the gals used to refer to a guy we knew as "Totty", because, quite frankly, he was Totty. I'm almost 100% sure he was never offended by this.
Is this another "storm in a d cup"? Oh I fear so. Slater's Ales, brewer of Top Totty, was proud to have their beer displayed in the Westminster bar and over the last five years I imagine that gallons of the stuff has been consumed, not because of a picture or because of the title but because it was probably a bloody good beer.
